It was a stormy Friday night in Dallas, TX, where at the music venue Echo Lounge, hundreds of concertgoers awaited indie rock artist Ben Kweller to take the stage.

Doors opened at 7 p.m., and the show promptly started at 8 p.m. as hip-hop duo Cheese Touch, comprised of Orono (formerly of Superorganism) and Mitch Marsico (also known as crazyfrogfan42069), kicked off the night. With mics in hand, they performed their 2024 single, “POOL.”
The feisty duo kept the crowd pumped and engaged by inviting a fan from the crowd to the stage for a fun dance number to go with an array of their 2024 debut singles. They ended their set raging out to “Complicated” (Avril Lavigne cover) with Orono lying on stage after a heavy performance.

By 9 p.m., the line out the door for entry had latecomers trickling in to catch the show. When the house music finally ended and the lights dimmed to purple, Kweller appeared stage left, setting himself up to play a solo opening song on piano, “Thirteen.”
The audience took a breath as the 43-year-old played the heartfelt tune, leading to the rest of the night’s songs on the Cover The Mirrors North American tour, promoting his latest album of the same name. This will be the Greenville, TX native’s 7th full album. In an ode to his teenage son Dorian’s passing in 2023, Kweller’s latest album will be available on streaming platforms May 30, his late son’s 19th birthday.

As a former member of the ‘90s garage rock group Radish, Kweller started a long career at an early age, sharing several stages, which led him to collaborate with several artists, like The Flaming Lips. His band members have consisted of several musicians over time. The current lineup includes Christopher Mintz-Plasse on bass, Parker Twomey on guitar and keys, and Ryan Dean on drums.
The group gave a fantastic performance and were energetic and lively throughout the show. The crowd especially responded to songs like the encores “Dollar Store” off Cover The Mirrors and “Wasted & Ready” from his 2002 debut album, Sha Sha, which ended the night.
