Since their formation in Düsseldorf in 1980, Germany’s Die Krupps have etched an indelible mark on industrial music, laying foundational sounds that reverberate through the DNA of acts like Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb. Last night at the gorgeous Brooklyn Paramount, that legacy surged forth in full technicolor fury, an electrifying collision of industrial beats and metal intensity.
From the opening salvo, Nazis auf Speed, Die Krupps seized control, unleashing a mechanized barrage fused seamlessly with their classic EBM pulse and jagged-edged metal riffs. Frontman Jürgen Engler’s intense, unflinching gaze swept across the audience, punctuated by his visceral strikes upon the iconic metal percussion tubes, an enduring hallmark of their live spectacle.
Guitarist Dylan Smith propelled the momentum forward, a whirl of kinetic energy whose onstage presence matched the precision and raw power emanating from his guitar. Die Krupps delivered their set with unrelenting force, a disciplined yet primal display that underscored their enduring significance in the industrial realm.
Songs like their visceral rendition of Visage’s Der Amboss, the pounding rhythms of Fatherland, and the mechanical precision of Robo Sapien reverberated through those hallowed halls. Metal Machine Music and To the Hilt further underscored the group’s mastery at bridging harsh metallic edges with infectious electronic grooves, culminating in the ferocious finale, Bloodsuckers.
Die Krupps demonstrated why they continue to be a powerhouse, delivering a blistering performance that blended raw power with refined execution.
Plus, they’re just plain FUN.
