Straight outta the Motor City chaos and into the pit, Detroit’s own SNAFU chatted with MusicFiends.com for a no-BS, all-thrash interview that rips as hard as their riffs. With their latest album Exile//Banishment leaving ears scorched and stages demolished, the hardcore punk/thrash wrecking crew talks tour life, DIY ethos, and what fuels their sonic assault. Brace yourself, this isn’t your grandma’s Sunday chat.

Emerging from the industrial heart of Detroit in 2006, SNAFU has carved a formidable niche in the extreme music scene with their ferocious blend of hardcore punk, thrash, and grindcore. The band’s lineup: Scott Curnow (guitar/vocals), Rian Staber (guitar/vocals), Patrick “El Toro” Saldivar (bass/vocals), and Mike Jurysta (drums), collectively crafts a sound that channels the raw aggression of Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust, Negative Approach, and Cro-Mags.

Their discography began with the independently released debut album, Fear the Future, in 2013, followed by Present Day Plague in 2015, which maintained their aggressive punk roots while incorporating elements of thrash and grind. In 2021, they unleashed their third full-length album, Exile//Banishment, via Housecore Records in North America and Nuclear Blast in Europe. This release, produced by Philip “Landphil” Hall (Municipal Waste, Cannabis Corpse) and Josh “Hallhammer” Hall (Cannabis Corpse), and mastered by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust), stands as their heaviest and most unrelenting work to date, delving into themes of personal frustration and societal decay.

Renowned for their intense live performances, SNAFU has shared stages with acts like Eyehategod and Escuela Grind, delivering sets that are both cathartic and confrontational. Their music not only reflects the bleakness of modern society but also serves as a rallying cry for those seeking solace in the chaos.

For those drawn to the raw energy of hardcore and the relentless drive of thrash, SNAFU offers a soundscape that is both unyielding and unapologetic, a testament to Detroit’s enduring legacy in the realm of heavy music.
