WATCH: INTERVIEW WITH ROSEGARDEN FUNERAL PARTY’S LEAH LANE AND DEAN ADAMS

Dallas locals Rosegarden Funeral Party have been on the road with Night Club for the last month in support of their third album, From the Ashes, which dropped in March. With only one week left to go, the tour brought them to a stop in Denton, TX to play for a sold-out crowd at Andy’s Bar, before heading out again the next morning to finish out the trek.

Stacks of red roses lined the front of the stage and the crowd was packed in tightly. Drummer Dean Adams quietly settled in behind his drum kit a few moments before front-woman Leah Lane appeared onstage to raucous applause and cheers. She announced they’d be doing something tonight that they never do: playing their latest album From the Ashes in its entirety, then launched into “Doorway Ghost.”

While only a two-piece at the moment (though Leah shared with us that her brother will be rejoining them on bass at larger shows soon), Leah has the energy of at least 4 people and utilizes all areas of the stage, alternating between swinging her guitar around and holding it high in the air. It’s a theatrical performance for sure and doesn’t disappoint.

RFP’s new sound is a departure from their previous material and is hard to classify. While dark, gothic undertones are still the main underlying vibe of the tracks, elements of numerous other genres can be heard.

Our post-show interview with the band ran into a snag when we realized the walls of the club would be vibrating with extremely loud dance music until 2 am, so Leah suggested we head to drummer Dean’s house. Not only was his house just a mere 10 minutes away, but he has two cats – enough said!

Leah and Dean (and Maple the cat) sat down with Angela Alameda of Music Fiends to discuss everything from the latest album and tour, to the darkwave/goth Obituary Festival Leah put together that’s happening this July in Dallas. Leah candidly discussed how she has reinvented herself outwardly to reflect her positive inward changes and we heard about Dean’s solo chamber-pop project, Young Dean.
